Music and lyrics by Damon Waitkus
Lyrics
Hey Honey, I’ll be right with you,
just let me smoke this coffin nail.
This town has a way of fuming
when you’re trying to inhale.
And look at you!
Were you raised by wolves or something?
How about we clean you up?
I better get my scythe…
I have a son, used to sweat out beads of stainless steel,
decked out like the shadow of a shadow of a corpse
until the day he turned up in jeans and work boots
and signed up for a tour.
Jim’s dad got a trust fund going
and believes his work is done,
and Jim says “If he thinks I enlisted for the money,
well, he doesn’t know his own son.
You keep an eye on the boys downstairs,” Jim tells me,
“You know, no one’s looking out for them
when their mama blows a fuse.”
So there you go: he’s a mensch.
God knows how that happened.
Once in a while a man just wakes up overnight.
Lord, I’m gonna miss him when he’s gone.
Anyway, you look like a million bucks,
if I may say so myself.
